Last weekend I thought that I would finish my minimalist cardigan in time for my jaunt to Paris next week. Clearly I am insane. I decided it was completely achievable to knit the majority of a cardigan in under a week and then block it and make it up IN MY SLEEP because there would not be ANY MORE TIME.
When I to knitting on Wednesday I was still thinking it was achievable and explaining how it was good to have a goal to focus the mind and the knitting. When Katie left she smiled and said you do realise you are doing "yarn harlot maths". At this point something in my head clicked and I realised the error of my ways. This is my first cardigan - I have just realised I have to rip back a section because my armholes are too wide by half an inch and my rib at the bottom of the back is wrong so might need to do some corrective grafting. These activities are not built into the schedule. The schedule did not also allow for work, forgetting the pattern on my commute and having to do cleaning and cooking. (oh and a spot of socialising...)
So my cardigan will not be finished - there will not be beautiful photos of my FO in beautiful Parisienne cafes but I will carry on enjoying knitting it while i am there. I am now pondering other important questions such as what things should I look for in Paris which you can only get in France. And how can I make my luggage look smaller (I'm under strict instructions to only bring minimal amounts of stuff with me, as I have a tendency to pack for all eventualities).
I'm thinking Anny Blatt angora but what would you look out for while you were there?
Any recommendations on yarn, fabric etc to look out for and places to visit will be much appreciated! Also any good nightspots and music venues that should not be missed would also be very cool to know about!
What... it's not completely achievable to knit the majority of a cardigan in under a week and then block it and make it up IN MY SLEEP because there would not be ANY MORE TIME??
Are you sure?

Hmmm... I think shots of you enjoying knitting the cardigan in Parisian cafes will be infinitely better than shots of you looking sleep-deprived and potentially violent due to a lack of rest.
Paris? Find good Absinthe in the red light district.
And some burgundy coloured haberdashery trimmings.
I'm thinking Moulin Rouge. But you could always go Amelie and pick up a little Parisian gnome.

I usually employ the vacuum packing techinique. Place clothes/yarn/other squashables in plastic bag. Close opening (but so that air can escape) and sit on it. You end up with small but very dense luggage!

Visiting from Lazulus's blog - I just got back from a weekend in Paris where I did a whole search for yarn-shops. Can give you some details if you're interested.
